Party walls

If you are planning an extension or loft conversion, the chances are you will be affected by the 'Party Wall Act'. This legislation provides a framework for preventing and resolving disputes in relation to party walls, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings.

As the 'Building Owner', you are required to give notice to the 'Adjoining Owner' of your intention to carry out works to, or near to the party wall.

In my experience, the Adjoining Owner usually consents to the works, but in some cases they do not, and a 'dispute' situation arises.

GRAYS will be able to guide you through the process and help you discharge your legal obligations.

If you think you may be affected by the Act, please contact us for a chat.
